Nepal is home to some of the most challenging and rewarding mountain biking trails in the world. From the high Himalayas to the lush valleys, there is something for every rider. This 3-day trip takes you from Kathmandu to Nagarkot to Balthali and back. You’ll ride through forests, mountain trails, villages, and farmlands, enjoying stunning views of the Kathmandu Valley and the Himalayan peaks along the way. The route is mostly singletrack, with some technical sections. There is a significant amount of climbing on the first two days, but the riding is rewarded with stunning scenery and a sense of accomplishment.

The trip is suitable for intermediate and advanced riders. You’ll need to be in good physical condition and have some experience riding mountain bikes on technical terrain.

Day 1: Kathmandu to Nagarkot-35km, Max Alt 2000m

Start your mountain biking adventure in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. After meeting your guide and mechanic, you’ll be transferred to the top of Nagarkot hill. From here, you’ll begin your ride downhill through forests, mountain trails, villages, and farmlands. Along the way, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the Kathmandu Valley and the Himalayan peaks.

Day 2: Nagarkot to Balthali via Dhulikhel and Namobuddha, 55km, Max Alt 2200m

On day two, you’ll ride from Nagarkot to Balthali, a traditional village nestled in the hills northeast of Kathmandu. Along the way, you’ll pass through the town of Dhulikhel, which is known for its temples and traditional Newari architecture. You’ll also visit Namobuddha, a sacred Buddhist site.

Day 3 Balthali- Lakhurebhanjhyang- Kathmandu, 45 km, Max Alt 2000m

On your final day of riding, you’ll descend from Balthali to Kathmandu. The ride is mostly downhill, with a few short climbs. Along the way, you’ll pass through the village of Lakhurebhanjhyang, which is known for its beautiful rice terraces.
